Social web services integration - Del.icio.us, Furl.net, Blogrolling.com and Flickr
It has been said that the world wide web will eventually evolve into the Social Web. And we can see it materialising with the increasing popularity of social software web services such as Del.icio.us, Furl and Blogrolling.
Del.icio.us has been described as social bookmarking service. It is a web service for storing and sharing internet links.
Furl also allows a user to save and share web bookmarks. It differs from del.icio.us in that the bookmarked page content is actually archived/cached on their servers and is available to the user for an indefinite period of time. This helps to overcome the increasingly problematic “link rot” plaquing the internet. Due to copyright restrictions, only the user is able to access the cached content, and the bookmark links can be shared with the public.
Blogrolling is a service for maintaining and sharing blogrolls.
I have integrated a few external web services into this site. Check out these links:
- My Del.icio.us. I recently opened an account here, so there are not many bookmarks yet.
- My Furl personal web folder.
- My blogroll hosted at Blogrolling.com.
In case you are wondering all the services above are available free of charge.
I should also mention here that the flash animation at the top of the sidebar is actually a link to my Flickr account. It displays the latest photos that I have stored there.
