What the above series of numbers have in common is that they are all “years of the dog“, according to the “Chinese Zodiac“. Out of curiousity I googled up a few articles describing common characteristics of dog people, or people born in the year of the dog.

People born in the Year of the Dog possess the best traits of human nature. They have a deep sense of loyalty, are *honest*, and inspire other people’s confidence because they know how to keep secrets. But Dog People are somewhat *selfish*, *terribly stubborn*, and *eccentric*. They care little for wealth, yet somehow always seem to have money. They can be *cold emotionally* and sometimes *distant* at parties. They can find fault with many things and are noted for their *sharp tongues*. Dog people make *good leaders*. They are compatible with those born in the Years of the Horse, Tiger, and Rabbit.

Being *honest* and possessing a *strong sense of duty*, people born in “The Year of the Dog” have a high level of self-esteem and are quite *opinionated* and *uncompromising*, making them appear to be *obstinate*. Though stiff in manner, they often amaze the world by producing a masterpiece. Those born in this year have the good fortune of receiving help and advice from their elders and superiors. If they follow their advice they will reap much success during their middle-age years, but if they ignore them they will have many regrets in their old age.

The Dog is a *giving*, *compassionate* personality. He offers kind words, support and advice to friends and family. He is a *listener*, always available to lend an ear or a shoulder to a friend in need. Often Dogs know more about their friends than their friends know about them or even themselves! Dogs are incredibly *attentive*. Sometimes though, Dogs should pay more attention to their own needs. In private, many Dog people *worry a lot*.

Curiously these generalizations do not seem to have much in common. However when distilled to the lowest common denominator a much clearer image appears. Here’s the composite picture that I see:

Dog people are generally honest but selfish. They are not only terribly stubborn but also obstinate. They are a bunch of opinionated, eccentric, emotionally cold and distant people. At the same time they are also compassionate and attentive creatures who enjoy giving and listening. Despite being uncompromising and having a strong sense of duty, dog people are also sharp tongued and tend to worry a lot. That’s why they make good leaders. ;-)
