The “Origami Project”:http://www.origamiproject.com/ is Microsoft’s teaser website for the “UMPC device”:http://www.microsoft.com/umpc . For the uninitiated, UMPC is the four letter acronym for Ultra Mobile PC, a new product platform aimed at the mobile computing market.

Microsoft, Intel and Samsung recently announced at Cebit their commitment to develop the UMPC platform. The UMPC is basically an ultra portable PC, lighter than 2 pounds, equipped with a touch screen and running on Windows XP (Tablet PC edition). It seems to be an evolution of the Tablet PC platform, sharing very much the same features.

What differentiates the UMPC from the Tablet PC is the “Microsoft Touch Pack”:http://origamiproject.com/blogs/team_blog/archive/2006/03/08/4.aspx , a set of five applications designed to enhance the user experience on the UMPC.

Can’t wait to get my hands on one.
